Prepping for the Holidays

Now that we’ve hurdled past Halloween and have landed at the front of the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season, we wanted to highlight a few to-do’s as we move toward hosting all of our family and friends for the festivities. Here are four simple steps that you can begin now in order to save time in the weeks to come for what really matters:

Gather and Prepare Your Supplies and Decor

If you’re anything like us, we tend to store all of our Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations in boxes,  bags and tubs deep in the closet, basement or attic, only to be thought of again just days before we really need them. Seize an hour  or so now to break out those boxes and tubs now and set them aside for easier access when you are actually ready to start decorating. To really save time now, start sorting through the decorations to determine what all you want to use this season, and wash or iron things like tablecloths and cloth napkins so that are ready when it’s time to set the table.

Replace Floor Protectors on Chairs

With the added traffic of all your friends and family during the holidays, we  often  forget to take precautions in protecting our floors. Especially for dining rooms with hardwood, inspect the floor protectors on the legs of your chairs or add some felt pads if you don’t already have them. This will ensure that after the festivities come to a close, your hardwood flooring isn’t left with an array of scratches and scuffs.

Deep Clean Your Bathrooms

While we tend  to regularly do light cleaning throughout our homes year round, there’s nothing like a truly deep clean before you invite tons of guests over – especially when it comes  to the bathrooms. Make sure to get into all the nooks, crannies, and crevices, now and just do quick touch-ups until  the guests arrive.

Keep Up on Leaf Raking

While it may seem pointless to being leaf raking now while leaves are still dropping, we think it’s valuable to work here and there to keep up on raking and gathering. By keeping up on the task  as the leaves fall, you won’t have to spend hours on cleaning up the massive collection  of leaves when you are trying to complete a million other tasks just before your family and friends arrive for your Thanksgiving festivities.
