If you don’t know what a potting bench is yet, you’re missing out! A potting bench or gardening table is basically a work and storage space for gardeners to transplant seedlings and complete other gardening tasks. In addition to being a great work space, however, potting benches are also super cute! They’re fun to decorate and can really add a nice touch to your patio or other outdoor space. It’s easy to decorate your bench in the spring and summer months because it is probably filled with potted plants and fresh herbs. But what to do with your potting bench in the fall? Here are some ideas!

You probably want to keep at least a few plants on your bench for fall! Mums and asters are great traditional fall container plants, but if you’re looking for something more exciting you could also try heuchera, verbena, decorative cabbage or sedum.
You may not be using a as many pots as you do during the spring and summer, so use your extras to create a cute display on your potting bench! Mix in some decorative fall items like pumpkins, squash or even a fall wreath to create an inviting vignette. Just try not to go overboard with your fall decorations. You still want you bench to have a “used” look.
Summer gets all the attention for its outdoor barbecues, but fall is really the best season to host an outdoor gathering! There aren’t as many bugs and it’s a great excuse to put on a big cozy sweater and have a yummy drink. Another great way to get some use out of your bench in the fall is to turn it into a drink cart or bar for an outdoor party.
