Summer feels like it is drawing to a close, but fall hasn’t quite arrived just yet. It’s one off those weird “in between” seasons, which are actually some of the best times of the year. Weather is mild and anticipation for the next season is building. Seize this time to detox your living spaces and “quiet” your house before fall.

According to The Nester and The Small Things Blog, the changing of seasons is a great time to de-clutter spaces before you bring in new accessories and decor for the next season. September is the perfect month to refresh your home to prepare for fall because most people are ready to start wrapping up summer but the weather is still a bit too warm to really start bringing out your fall decor.
So what does “quieting” your home entail exactly? Start by clearing out any specifically “summer” items or decorations (pool gear, summer scented candles, vases, etc.). Also use this time to gather up any other random knick-knacks that may have built up around your home. Sometimes your home can get cluttered by these items without you consciously realizing it because you just get used to seeing them. Clearing out unnecessary decorations allows you to see your home as a blank canvas before bringing in fall decorations.
Allow your house to sit “quiet” for a couple of weeks or so. When you do decide to bring out your fall goodies ask yourself how each item adds to the space? Is it necessary or does it just create visual clutter? You would be surprised at how a few well placed items can go a long way and how having less clutter can make you feel more relaxed in your home.
