Are you on the fence when it comes to buying a home? Ed Brady, NAHB Chairman of the Board, devoted his Chairman's Letter in the June 2016 edition of "Builder Magazine" to the benefits of home ownership in honor of National Homeownership Month. He reminds us of the benefits of home ownership to families and...
Do you have a wall space (or spaces) in your home that are bland or boring? Are you running out of ideas for how to occupy valuable wall space? Here are five unique ideas that you maybe haven’t thought of!
- Gallery Wall
If you have a larger space to work with, a gallery wall may be just the idea for you. Really, the options are endless: collect multiple frames (small to medium sized work best) and arrange them either symmetrically or randomly depending on your preference. Fill them up with photos of family and friends, vacation shots, and more! Or, if you have kids, this may be a great space for you to display some of their beautiful artwork. If your home décor follows a more rustic theme, try some distressed wooden frames, or if you like a more polished look, try simple black or silver frames on this project!
- Framed Wallpaper
Many home owners have come across patterned wallpaper that they love but are a little worried or skeptical to commit to doing a whole wall or room in wallpaper. An option for you may be a framed section of wallpaper. Depending on the space you are working with, measure out the amount of wallpaper you need and find a simple frame that doesn’t conflict with the pattern or colors in the paper. For abnormal measurements, think about having a frame custom made for your space! Bonus: when you’re tired of the print, just swap out the piece for a new one – instant abstract art!
- Woven Wall Hanging
For the last few years, woven wall hangings have been taking the home décor market by storm. While most come in more neutral colors or palettes, searching the web (try Etsy or eBay!) could lead you to your perfect wall hanging. If you like to get a little crafty, search Pinterest for tutorials on how to make your own woven wall hanging!
- Vertical Garden
If you’re really looking to think outside the box, try a vertical garden that hangs on the wall. Be sure that the space you are working with has plenty of natural light before getting started, then visit your local craft store to find “pocket” hangers that can be hung on the wall, or even find some great wooden flower boxes that can be mounted in rows or staggered on the wall. Choose your plants, then get started! (note: this requires upkeep with watering and possible trimming of plants!)
- Vintage Signs or Typography Artwork
Finally, anyone who watches any home design program on television is no stranger to the fact that vintage signs or artwork containing text/typography are all the rage right now. While many craft/hobby stores have many signs that are made to look vintage, we think it’s more fun to get out to your local antique shops – this way, your piece will be more unique. Keep an open mind, you never know what you may find and it may just be the perfect statement piece for your home!
