Is it time for you to switch up the window treatments in your home? Do you desire something with a little more creativity and character? We’ve collected five unique window treatment options that can transform any room in your home!
Coffee Sack Curtains
If you have a local market or healthfood store that sells wholesale coffee in bulk, ask if they have any leftover burlap coffee sacks that you can purchase. If you can’t find any actual coffee sacks anywhere, no worries! Head to any craft store and purchase burlap by the yard. To add the character that most coffee sacks have, use stencils to add text across the pieces of burlap. These window treatments not only look great in a kitchen, but they are also super cheap! The example below was created for under $5, including hardware!
Drop Cloth Valance
Contrary to popular belief, window treatments don’t have to be fussy. You can create a simple and chic valance simply with a small piece of drop cloth. Leave the drop cloth plain for a very minimalist style, or dress it up by trimming it with a ribbon of your choice (as seen below)!
For another burlap look, forego the shortened valance made from coffee sacks and opt for floor length burlap curtains. With the addition of metal grommets, these curtains are super easy to hang and will give any room an added touch of texture while still maintaining a modern vibe.
In a humid space like a bathroom, full-length drapes are not ideal. With a pillowcase of your choosing (we love patterned cases!), tack the case in place and add some pleating for detail. This method is a simple and cheap way to dress up your bathroom windows. Bonus: the case can easily be un-tacked and taken down for washing!
Hanging Mason Jars
If you’re in for an idea that is truly unique, think about forgetting fabric altogether! With a few mason jars, hooks, and some twine, you can create the perfect rustic look! Start by wrapping the twine snuggly around the top of the mason jars multiple times, tie off a double knot when finished, then create a loop with the rest of the twine to hang the jars from the hooks. For a more organic look, keep the jars a little bit staggered. With this route, you can avoid having windows that are too plain, and you also have more excuses to have fresh flowers around the house!
If you’re in the market for quick and easy window treatments, we hope that these unique ideas will help you get started in dressing up any window in your home!
