While some may naturally have a green thumb or have been house plant pros for years, the rest of us may not be quite as confident when it comes to picking the right house plants, or better yet, keeping them alive for long. We've compiled a list of some of the most low-maintenance house plants...
It’s the season to be outdoors, and what better way to sip coffee in the morning or read a book by candlelight in the evening than on your front porch, all “cozied” up for the spring and summer seasons? Here are some quick tips to making your porch extra cozy to enjoy every day!
Potted plants bring warmth and color to your front porch. Try staggering the pots down your front steps, placing them on the pedestals of your railing (if you have them), or placing them on either side of your front door. If you have room for a small table and chair set, consider placing a small pot of florals on your table as well!
Pillows & Cushions
Whether you’ve got a porch swing, some rockers, or a bench, a surefire way to get more use out of your porch seating is to make it more comfortable to sit on for longer amounts of time. Search your local Lowe’s, Target, or Home Depot for great outdoor pillows and cushions in either vibrant, summery colors, or something simple and calm to create a super relaxing space.
To make the most of your porch during the evenings, consider adding a strand of lights, or some lanterns. Think Edison bulbs for a light strand, or look for a rustic, metal or wood lantern or two. Candles – especially citronella, to keep the bugs at bay – are a great addition as well.
Along the same line as the pillows and cushions, adding a throw blanket (great for if your front porch is covered) will ensure that even on chillier evenings, you’ll want to enjoy the fresh air a little bit longer.
Last but not least, adding simple porch accessories can make your front porch space feel like an extra room to your home. Look for pieces at Target or Hobby Lobby to add to a cafe table or coffee table and your space will be looking great!
Sometimes all it takes to jump start your next home project are a few simple ideas – so get creative and make the front porch space of your dreams!
