Spring is the best season to host a brunch. The weather is getting warmer so everyone is in a festive mood (and eager to show off their new spring wardrobes). Whether you’re planning to host a bunch for Easter, Mother’s Day or just planning a springtime brunch in general, you want to make your brunch interesting and unique. Brunches by their very nature are supposed to be a fun and frivolous experience and you definitely want to push the festive vibe! Here are some tips on hosting the perfect springtime brunch.
Menu + Drinks
When it comes to your brunch menu, think of the three F’s – “fun, fancy and flavorful.” You don’t want anything on your menu to be overly heavy, but you want a variety of sweet and savory items. When guests attend a brunch, they tend to want to try small portions of many different offerings. Try to keep things light but also festive. This means paying a little more attention to presentation as well. Another brunch menu must – a “make your own” something bar. It can be make your own mimosas, waffles, parfaits, etc. The more creative the better!
- Coffee and mimosas
- Make your own waffle bar
- Mini chicken salad sandwiches
- Cheese and cracker spread
- Fruit tray
- Cupcakes or cookies
Now you don’t have to go totally overboard on decor if you don’t want to (or are trying to stay within a budget), but some fresh flowers are a definite must. Brunches are also the ideal occasion to dress things up a bit and bust out your fanciest serve ware and dishes. Yes, this could mean washing some dishes by hand after everyone has left, but your guests will appreciate it! If you want to take things a step further, some cute hand-lettered signs or tasteful pendant banners make cute brunch decor as well!
Your brunch-time activities will really depend on your guestlist. Is this a girlfriends brunch? A couples get-together? Or a family affair? If you’re hosting a grown-up oriented brunch, you might not necessarily even need any activities. Just create several seating areas that allow for relaxation and conversation. Another option is to set out some cute vintage board games or lawn games if you’re going to be outside (great for entertaining the hubbies!). If you’re going to have kiddos at your brunch, set up a special little table just for them and lay out some non-messy crafts and toys.
Happy brunching! 🙂
