Here are a few traditions that we have fallen in love with and we think could be the perfect dose of good fun and holiday cheer for you and your kids this season and for many to come!
Christmas Eve Pickle
This tradition is German in origin, although no one seems to be able to pinpoint exactly how it began! For this tradition, a pickle shaped ornament is placed deep inside the Christmas tree and the first child to find it on Christmas morning receives an extra little gift or prize for their efforts! No pickle ornament, no worries, choose any ornament that is set apart from the rest on your tree and save it for Christmas Eve year after year.
Pajama Elves
Christmas Eve is the perfect night to don cozy PJs, especially when the “elves” can deliver them on Christmas Eve before Santa comes during the night! Perfect for your little ones, there is even a book by Hayden Edwards called The Pajama Elves that can help you play up this tradition!
Christmas Key
It’s long been told that Santa enters each house via the chimney with presents in tow – but what if you don’t have a fireplace and chimney? Having a “magical” Christmas Key to hang outside on Christmas Eve will leave your young ones at ease knowing their house won’t be overlooked!
Track Santa
One of our favorite new traditions for families to adopt on Christmas Eve is to track Santa’s whereabouts via the NORAD Santa Tracker. With volunteers answering calls and emails to keep people informed, this will really help your kids build up some excitement for Santa’s arrival!
