Did you know that on average we spend one third of our lives in bed? What more of a reason is there to make your master bedroom your favorite room in the house! Here are five things that we believe every master bedroom should have:
- Focal Wall
Typically located just behind the bed, a wall with a pop of color, textured paint, interesting wallpaper, or even shiplap will draw the eye to the focal point of the room. Steer away from doing all four walls in this manner – in fact, try keeping the other three walls fairly neutral/light while saving the wow-factor for this focal wall.
2. Dramatic Headboard
Nothing completes the look of your focal wall like a headboard. There are many looks, styles, and colors to choose from – wrought iron, upholstered, wood, or a combination. Pick a headboard that ties into the rest of your design scheme and you’ll notice how your eyes are drawn into the desired focal point.
3. Accent Pillows
While your absolute favorite color may be a deep, dramatic red, it may be wise to steer away from painting your four walls in that hue – especially since a color like this can visually decrease room size and take away from the calming qualities that most people look for when designing their master suite. Instead, opt for a few accent pillows to toss on the bed that can tie in the red (or whatever other color/pattern you are going for!) and complete your design look!
4. Good Mattress
Let’s focus for a second on the most important aspect of your master bedroom: the mattress. Nothing can kill your design vibes quite like laying down at the end of the day on a squeaky, uncomfortable, or hot mattress. Shop around before you buy and ask yourselves what you most look for in a good night’s sleep. Remember, investing now will save your back (and your sanity!) later!
5. Area Rug
If you have hard wood flooring in your master bedroom, you know there’s nothing worse than waking up and setting your feet down on ice cold floors first thing in the morning. Without completely compromising the look of hard floors, try adding an area rug under the bed. Serving two purposes, keeping your toes nice and toasty and adding a finishing touch to your design scheme, area rugs are definitely worth the buy. Even if your room is carpeted, you’ll still benefit from a little extra padding for your feet!
Next time you get ready to dress up or simply add a few finishing touches to your master bedroom, keep these things in mind!
