Finding the perfect rug for a room can be difficult. You want it to pull the whole room together and make a space feel cohesive and finished. No matter what pattern or style you choose, one of the most important parts of choosing your rug is finding the right size for your space. Follow these rules and you can never go wrong:
Rule #1: The rug should be big enough for all of the legs of the furniture in the room to fit on the rug. If the rug is not big enough for the space it can make it look as though it does not fit in the room or interrupt the flow of the room.
Rule #2: Placement matters! Pay attention to where you place the rug based on the rest of the furniture in the room. For example, you may not want to put all of the legs of your couch on the rug due to limited space in the room. Instead, place only the front legs or neither set of legs on the rug to make the space feel bigger.
Note: Make sure at least one piece of furniture on the outer edge of the rug has at least the front legs on the rug or else the rug may look out of place or too small for the space.
