Bookcases are a great way to add organization to your home, but they can also be used to decorate a room! Styling a bookcase is not always and easy task, but by keeping a few things in mind anyone can do it!
Tip 1: Less is more! If you are wanting to use the bookcase as decor instead of just for its storage purposes, then this tip is a great one to keep in mind! You do not want the bookcase to look cluttered, it will make it feel less put together as well as make the room look more cluttered.
Tip 2: Do not just use books! Putting pictures, candles and other trinkets on the bookshelves along with the books really helps to break up the rows of books. You can even have shelves that have no books on them at all!
Tip 3: Stack the books on top of each other! By varying the direction you place the books (some upright and some laying flat) you can break up the monotony. You can also place other pieces, such as pictures or your favorite vases, on top of the stacked books to help fill in the space or highlight the item!
Tip 4: Pick a color scheme! Picking 3 or 4 colors that complement each other and varying them on the bookshelf will help to make the look cohesive and finished. The books on the shelves do not necessarily have to coordinate with the color scheme (this would be a nearly impossible task!) , but try to have the picture frames, vases, candles and other objects on the shelves tie the look together by coordinating them.
