Choosing the Right Paint Color. Every Time.

1. Think about the mood you want to set. When choosing a paint color you want to think about the setting of the room and how you want to feel when you are in that room. For example, if it is your bedroom do you want it to feel peaceful, romantic or dramatic?
2. Consider lighting. Is there a lot of natural light, incandescent lighting or florescent? The lighting will make a big difference in the way the color will look on the walls.
3. Try before you buy. This couldn’t be more important! You will never know how a color is going to look in a room until you actually try it out. However, you don’t want risk spending money on a few gallons of paint if you are going to do the first coat and realize you hate it. Ask for samples and if they don’t give out samples, start with a quart of paint. It is better to try it out and spend a few extra bucks to know that you are going to love the end result!
4. Consider the colors in the rest of your home. Even if the rooms aren’t directly next to one another, you should think of your home as one cohesive unit. Make sure all of the colors look good together and give your home an easy flow.
5. Get inspiration. If you are still not sure what color you like in a room, look around online or in friends homes to see what colors you like and don’t like. You can even create an inspiration board with all of your decor so you know exactly what you want your room to look like!
