3rd Quarter Community Outreach CASA Charity Golf Event

North Eastern Group Realty is pleased to be participating in the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Charity Golf Event, September 11, 2010. Lori Stinson of North Eastern Group Realty is the Golf Education Chair of the Executive Women’s Golf Association, and CASA Board Member.

CASA volunteers assist the more than 1,000 children who at any given time are under the jurisdiction of the Allen County Superior Court due to parental neglect or abuse. The CASA volunteer becomes the eyes and ears of the judge, becoming deeply involved in the child’s life to make recommendations on how to best help the child – whether it be to provide services for the parents, assess behavioral problems of the child, to place the child with relatives, or if necessary, to terminate parental rights. The CASA volunteer will also accompany his or her child through the legal system, appearing at all court hearings and participating in other meetings such as school conferences or mental health assessments. Typically, the CASA volunteer will accompany the child for the duration of the legal process, usually from 24 to 36 months.

New Home Sales Climb in June

The housing slump caused by the end of the tax credits may be over, with sales of new homes rising 24 percent in June compared to May to an annual rate of 330,000, the U.S. Commerce Department reported Tuesday.

Nevertheless, sales were at their second-lowest rate since 1963 – May’s were the lowest.

“The future is going to be dependent on job growth. There’s no demand because confidence is weak and employment is weak,” says Eric Green, chief market economist at TD Securities Inc. in New York.

A 35 unit senior apartment project planned for NW Fort Wayne underway

The Village at Dawsons Creek will be a 35 unit project with two-bedroom homes and attached garages on the northeast corner of Till Road and Dawson’s Creek Boulevard, south of Dupont Road. The exterior facades will be homogeneous with the current exteriors of the villas at The Courtyards of Dawsons Creek with tan siding and coordinating stone. The covered front porches and the central park area will make for a great community atmosphere.

The project will be presented for approval Aug. 9 at a public hearing before the Fort Wayne Plan Commission.

U.S. Census figures show that 11.7 percent of the Allen County population is 65 years or older, but that number likely will grow based on national estimates. The Census Bureau says that the number of people age 65 and older will likely double in the next 25 years.

Congratulations to North Eastern Group Realtor, Beth Goldsmith, owner of Sold by the Gold, for her HUGE contribution to the success of the 2010 Vera Bradley Foundation fundraiser! This year’s campaign raised $800,275 for breast cancer research! Beth was co-captain of a team of eight riders who represented Vera Bradley Foundation in the 2009 Race Across America, raising breast cancer awareness coast to coast.

The team motto was appropriately “Survive 2 Thrive” and thrive Beth is. She is strong, her business is strong, and her inspiration to others is as well. This is obvious as you flip through the pages of the Vera Bradley Foundation magazine for June 2010 and see page after page of Donors who gave in Beth’s honor.

Beth’s journey has had more than its share of struggles and grief. In her words, “Enough to understand that the ultimate destination is the same for each of us. No one can cheat death, but we can live well in the days we are given.”

Congratulations Beth on not only Surviving to Thrive, but inspiring others to do the same!
